Artist statement
My name is Abigail Dyer. I'm pursuing a BFA major in painting and a minor in sculpture at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. My goals are to own a gallery for my art which would also include my studio and works in progress. My current interest is, and has been, oil painting, and I love painting the figure; portraits, hands, skin; but also nature and animals. The reason I love these subjects is because it is all life. It all suggests movement, growth, a past and a future, a story. I love being able to capture an idea in a new and beautiful way. The process of painting is just relaxing to me, and being able to see how a piece comes together from the beginning to the end is sometimes more satisfying than the end product because of how I grew and what I learned in the process. I am beginning to love sculpture, specifically in clay and wood. The idea that there is a complete sculpture already in a block of wood is really cool to me. I think it is important that I create my work with nature. The dust from the ground in which we were made, and the very thing that gives us oxygen to breath. I would like to have my art showing in galleries and museums around the world. Specifically The Bible Museum, in Washington D.C. Virginia, seeing as the majority of my work is inspired by stories, teachings and ideas from the Bible. I love what I do, and I am very expectant for what the future holds.
