Lives and works in Minneapolis, MN, USA

Artist statement

Though I live in South Minneapolis, my identity and art practice are closely tied to the landscape of Patagonia, where I was raised. A foundational tension between this austere landscape and the metro has fostered in me a desire to present states and phenomena alien to modern life. "More-than-human” geographies, deep time, and climatic forces inform material-based sculpture and installation, exploring agents and environments that long preceded us and a speculative future after us. Drawing formal and material inspiration from the natural world, my work also considers the current, entangled relationships between humans and nonhuman others. My sculptures’ material and form align with the pressing discourse around today’s environmental challenges. The fabrication and casting processes used in the studio mimic the organic mark-making, erosive, and ossifying effects produced by water, wind, time, and other agents. Sculptures are built from such diverse matter as obsidian, bull kelp, coconut coir erosion logs, adobe clay, linen, concrete, bronze, pewter, and lead. The resulting sculptures embody these materials' qualities and histories.
