Lives and works in San Francisco, CA, USA

Artist statement

Growing up as a sissy-boy who hated gym, I discovered craft as a way to create my own haven where my love of American pop culture and Latinx upbringing could coexist. Through sewing my work explores intersectional identities rooted in immigrant experiences, gender roles, HIV+ survival, and queer sensibilities. I braid traditional quilting techniques with digitized prints, fabric remnants, clothing, video imagery and pop cultural artifacts to create Frankensteinian-like work that mirrors acculturation anxieties. Through this visual code switching I challenge gender and cultural expectations.
