Lives and works in New York, NY, USA
Artist statement
My paintings are updates of paintings from earlier eras. I keep these works alive and make them my own by restoring and refreshing them. Each era brings up a particular theme that I trace to the present day. My current inspiration is the French Impressionists. The artists of this era depicted small moments of every day life with an emphasis on light, shade and color. I adapt my own way of painting to their compositions and way of rendering. I attempt to contemporize their subjects by updating hair and clothing and modernize their setting by adding consumer items and technical devices, until the final image conveys some kind of social commentary in a hopefully humorous way.
