Lives and works in Offenbach am Main, Germany

Artist statement

Usually I work on a project basis. I develop these projects on the basis of questions about history, and I am interested in social conflicts and everyday issues. I approach them with a perspective of history from below. History is not a linear process, but a moment of contradiction, discrepancy, antagonism, conflict and confrontation. Since 2019, I have been working on German colonialism in East Africa. After a period of research in archives and literature, I began sketches on the subject and developed mainly paintings. I lie in wait not to illustrate my thoughts and to find a place from which, it becomes possible to speak. The colonial library of the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University in Frankfurt/Germany contains 50000 digitalized colonial photos. These photos show little of the uprisings and resistance, but they do show photos of the everyday life of the colonial masters and their families. The self-evident contempt for humanity that is expressed in the everyday life of the white supremacists is disgusting. I took some of the photos as a model, they can be recognized by the numbering through the library.
