Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA

Artist statement

I make sculptures and installations using ready-made objects and remade things drawn from public and semi-public settings. I am interested in their familiarity, their material qualities, and the cultural associations they carry. I work through changes in scale, movement, material, and presentation. The things we choose and surround ourselves with can acquire a presence that is difficult to account for through their use or symbolic meaning alone. I am interested in the attachments we form to objects and the ways they organize our desires and behavior in return. My work considers how we use objects, and how we are used by them. The sculptures draw on conventions of display from commerce, art history, and design. My relationship to these forms is shaped by an interest in taste: how it develops, what it preserves, and how gestures once associated with artistic critique become aesthetic conventions.
