Lives and works in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Artist statement
My painting practice begins with collecting objects, images, and memories tied to my family history, my travels, and the everyday surroundings that shape me. I create scenes that evoke intimate memory—still lifes of meaningful objects or landscapes from the central mountains of the island, places that marked my childhood and remain living spaces of familial connection. These paintings serve as a visual and emotional archive, where past and present intertwine. I’m also interested in exhibitions that move beyond painting as an isolated object. My shows often expand into installations that incorporate leisure, vernacular gestures, and the everyday folklore of the Caribbean. I’m inspired by how people “make do” in daily life—like building a makeshift bench to sit and share—and I try to replicate those gestures beyond their original context. Through participatory situations and happenings, I aim to invite interaction and spark collective memory. In this way, objects of memory are not only shown, but activated.
