Lives and works in Greece

Artist statement

My Work In my work, I try to explore the world that surrounds me. What I am interested in approaching are elements from the environment, the landscape, and the natural world. I just want to look closer and observe what exactly exists, just in front of my eyes, on every level. At some point I came to realize that my past experiences are highlighted in my work. I used to search for the beauty, the harmony and the light, reflecting the needs produced from my Greek heritage. However, it also seems that I come to approach it through my personal demons. I like to base my work on the painting tradition of the romantic era, in which a landscape or nature in any expression, appear as a state of mind - the reflection of beliefs, longing, and fears. I choose painting to express my art, because although we are in the era of images, surrounded by ever changing pictures at an extreme pace, I still feel that a painting is part of a tradition, in which one has to stop, notice, and remark. I personally feel compelled to take a closer look, and to take part in a self-exploratory journey, following a landscape, part of which is real, and part of which is imaginary, and examine the feelings this journey leaves behind. I work partially through painting from nature, and partially by using my imagination to expand the image on multiple levels.
