Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA, USA

Artist statement

My practice illuminates the intricate infrastructures interlocking image circulation, resource extraction, and the optics of a post-neoliberal world. Working in painting as a root practice while recently expanding into sculpture and installation, my approach to artmaking is steeped in the constellatory logic of pattern recognition. I work on several ongoing series simultaneously with a central thematic engine: creating works which evoke the contemporary phantasmagorical experience of seeing, perceiving, and diagnosing an artificially lit landscape. Being of Peruvian and Chilean heritage yet born in the United States, my existence cannot be untangled from extractivism and imperialism. In my work, themes of corruption, distortion and subversion of technological and mechanical armatures dance with optical phenomena reflected through biomorphic mirrors. References to divination practices, pop culture phantoms, surveillance technologies, and marine ecology exemplify different tangents of inquiry. Through connecting these elements I seek to bring into focus the many ways extractive myopia, or the imaginary distance from or intentional blindness towards physical extraction of resources, simultaneously continues to enable and synthesize both global connectivity as well as colonial legacies.
