Lives and works in California, USA / Riga, Latvia

Artist statement

Artist Statement I make sculptures, from small, jewel-like objects worn on the body to monumental bronzes nine metres tall, for public and sacred spaces. One question keeps coming back: can a solid object feel alive? Can it bring balance, light and goodness into the space around it, the way a flower gives the best of itself freely and asks nothing back? My work lives in the meeting point between the material and the spiritual. I work slowly and by hand. I learned to shape form with a sensitivity close to touch from my parents, both sculptors, and deepened it over more than a decade of sacred art in California, where I took part sculpting and casting bronze statues six and nine metres tall and smaller sizes. Baltic mythology and Latvian folklore run through each piece, planted like seeds of an older, deeper knowledge. Poetry, performance and sound carry the sculptures into other senses. I hope the viewer's heart softens and opens just by looking, meeting a beauty that belongs to everyone, the way our hearts do.
