Artist statement

I am a 44 year old gender and otherwise queer writer/artist/performer living and working in New York City. I have no higher education degrees, and have lived my life mostly in and around the psychiatric system. Formerly diagnosed with schizophrenia and a profound and persistent mental illness, I now have a diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personality disorder. DID is a dissociative, trauma-genic disorder. My art is an expression of the struggle I wage daily- an attempt to understand what has happened to me. And an effort, through deeper understanding, to live my life in an increasingly coherent/cohesive way. I create my work as a of collage of other people's work. And it reflects the way I move through life: As an outsider. Amid a clamor of varied voices; styles; prerogatives; affects; developmental stages; genders; and so on, ad infinitum.
