Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA
Artist statement
My work begins with the body, both as subject and as instrument. I make paintings, drawings, sculpture, and performance-based work that explore embodiment, femininity, pleasure, control, memory, and the stories we build around ourselves. Figures appear repeatedly in my work, often stretched, awkward, sensual, defiant, or caught somewhere between performance and private experience. Recently, I have been using my hands and feet directly in the making of paintings, (IN BODY series) no tools other than my body. I was born in Hollywood and have spent much of my life inside the language of performance. That history also enters my work through portraits, cinematic text, constructed identities, and recurring references to place. In my HOLLYWOOD MADE series, screenplay scene headings become part of the image, placing imagined women inside real Los Angeles locations. Across mediums, I am interested in the tension between being seen and being known, control and surrender, performance and presence. I want the work to feel alive, imperfect, physical, energetic, and wild.
