Artist statement
ANTONIO TÁRSIS Salvador, BA, 1995 Lives and works in Salvador, BA; Rio de Janeiro, RJ; London, UK. As part of his creative and research processes, Antonio Társis walks attentively through the cities, retrieving all kinds of materials from the streets - which he combines, reproduces and re-contextualises in compositions such as collages, photographs, objects and also installations. Walking works as a way of getting to know and recognising the city and its territories: on his journeys he finds elements that provide subsidies for making small records of his own time and place. Commonly, the materials he retrieves carry in themselves some narratives. Medicine bottles, revolver bullets, match boxes, are some of these elements that suggest certain uses, however, the artist wishes to subvert this assumption, transforming them into new objects that invite us to look at them for the first time.
