Asareh Akasheh
Lives and works in Paris, France
Artist statement
We encounter a psychological and aesthetic vision of “Body” in Asareh’s works. How with passage of time these “Bodies” go through alteration in reaction to the “outside of self” or in other words the “evanescence” of matter. In her works, the limits that form the totality of “Body” are disintegrated through political, medical, and aesthetic concepts and “Body” is transformed into small repetitive pieces that would never represent the whole. This is a process of construction, deconstruction and reconstruction. To achieve this, she has a personal and contemporary approach to traditional methods such as hand printing and paper craft that would allow her to encounter “occurrence” and “accidence”. Her method of creation is instinctual and empirical and is focalized around her obsession with details. Her process all through her creation career has been reducing, and over time, forms and colors have become minimalized, creating a silent and quiescent atmosphere. Beside her attention to the concept of “Body” through her career Asareh has evolved from mere “Image” to “Matter and Image” and the correlation between the two.
