Artist statement
Atsushi Aizawa is a contemporary visual artist based in Tokyo. He spent his childhood in Satoyama, and is interested in “the boundary area where nature and humans meet”, “a place where waste of nature and civilization is mixed” and “a place where energy is consumed”. He finds these as historical heritage lost in modern complex and diverse societies. He researches the structure, raises questions, reflects the existence of matter and the recognition of kinetic energy, and his work is made up. They are based on concepts such as space, time, and philosophy. He uses a variety of natural objects, industrial products, and transformations and phenomena of materials to construct two-dimensional works and sculptures in various ways.
