Artist statement

Austin Li-Chang is an oil painter of nebulous, emotional portraits and images of the everyday. Referencing photographs, he balances close observation with memory to create images that are subtly distorted, shifting the emphasis toward sensation. Austin currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, and was most recently featured in New American Paintings’ NOVA 1 publication.
