Artist statement
Beile Hu is an interdisciplinary artist working across performance, sound, moving images and installations. Their practice often revolves around ritual repetition, and intimate interactions with people and non-human entities, expanding toward the soft touch of one-to-one relationships. Their works explore the potential of the human body as a vessel for easing pain and a culture dish for resistance and rebellion. Through sound, interactive performance, and mixed-media installations, they examine how technology can both extend and constrain the body. By translating the personal into the political, they investigate fluid forms of intimacy between humans, non-human entities, and social-ecological environments. Through sensory interplay and the navigation of vulnerability within performance, their practice examines how emotions are retained, transformed, and echoed through human presence physically, culturally, and historically.
