Artist statement

I approach my paintings as visual poems. I don't want to capture a pretty landscape or moment in time- I collect and combine ordinary, often-overlooked elements into an image that conveys the essence of what I’m seeing and feeling in a visual metaphorical language. I always start from my own experience, but I’m aware of being an individual living within the context of multiple global crises- and there is always an element of using art as a way to process what is happening. Themes that I am always drawn to are home, the natural world, and portals to alternate realities.
