Lives and works in Philadelphia, PA, USA
Artist statement
Each day I wake up and get out of bed when I feel the time is right. There are things that I may have scheduled and that I want to accomplish, but I don’t necessarily plan my day. While others meticulously obsess over each hour, or even each minute of the day, I live life according to energy and operate within its currents. Over the years, I’ve learned to navigate energy and trust that I’m being guided towards my ultimate destiny, whatever that may be. This philosophy helps to mitigate anxiety, and allows me to reach a consciousness ideal for creating timely works that are embedded with honesty, truth, vulnerability, and emotional depth. My art practice includes layered entendres, symbolism, phrases, and surrealistic imagery that illustrates the life and challenges of a black artist trying to survive and thrive in America. My direction, purpose, and duty is to reflect the times and circumstances in which I find myself. In doing so I enable my audience to understand my journey, while also bringing each viewer face to face with their own realities. My work heavily reflects the uncertainty, confusion, anger, fear, skepticism, and cynicism regarding socioeconomic factors, social constructs, politics, and the art world at large. For me, understanding energy and using it to find clarity, yields the purest, most sincere work.
