Lives and works in Bento Gonçalves, RS, Brazil
Artist statement
My research begins with matter as a bearer of memory and with nature as a field for investigating the correlations between nature and human experience. I work primarily with sculpture, using wood, minerals, clay, textiles, and other materials that carry histories, marks, and different temporalities. I am interested in observing how each material records what happens to it — growth, wear, transformation, the action of its environment — and in bringing these processes closer to the ways in which we are also transformed throughout life. Within this process, there is a search to recognize what is essential in us, to accept what life has added to our way of being, and to understand how these marks also contribute to what makes us unique, while recognizing that we also have the power to shape and reinterpret what we choose, without losing sight of the importance of preserving our essence. My research moves through perception, neuroaesthetics, behavior, philosophy, and nature. Rather than representing the natural world, I seek to observe its processes and establish connections with what constitutes us.
