Artist statement
My practice explores the emotional grammar of things that exist in-between: presence and absence, control and surrender, what is revealed and what remains hidden. I build paintings through layers of acrylic, pastel, and oil stick, repeatedly covering, erasing, interrupting, and returning to the surface. My process is intuitive but not arbitrary; each gesture responds to what is already there, what needs to remain, and what can disappear. My background in law trained me to think through written structures and rules. Painting has led me toward their invisible counterparts: the unwritten systems that shape emotion, memory, distance, and place. Rather than resolving these tensions, I allow the painting to hold them.
