Artist statement
I combine the traditional practices of landscape and portraiture with photo-surrealist collage to create an overall narrative. This is achieved by weaving in and out elements of hundreds of different photographs to create new landscapes with undulating scale and perspective. The narratives created by these landscapes provide clues into the deeper conceptual subtext of the overall piece. My goal is to construct environments in which the viewer becomes submerged and lost in the shifting landscapes. In each work is a unified visage, composed of the many fragments dispersed across the canvas. What this signals is the unity of consciousness, the singularity of identity, set against the arbitrary flux of information that flows in on us from all sides.
