Artist statement
I am a visual artist working primarily in woodcut printmaking. I am drawn to woodcut because of its directness, accessibility, and historical roots as an early tool for mass communication. In a culture driven by speed and consumption, the slow, deliberate nature of carving and hand-printing stands in contrast to systems built on efficiency and disposability. Through both imagery and process, I explore the world around me. I am increasingly interested in traditional forms of making and ways of life being changed by technology and globalization. My subject matter remains broad, moving between personal experience and larger social, political, and environmental concerns.
