Artist statement

My name is Charles Wright, I am a 27 year old African American from Brooklyn, NY. I have been drawing my whole life starting with tracing my older brothers artwork, he would draw Characters from the cartoon "Dragon Ball Z" in those times that was our favorite TV show. A few people in my Family were able to draw but none of them ever took is seriously and eventually ended up abandoning their craft. I promised myself I would never abandon my craft, starting my long journey as an artist. In class, I would do more day dreaming and drawing than anything else. Going home and practicing my sketches besides homework, I would do this for years not attending any special art program or school other than art classes required in school. Over time my craft would progress into the artwork you see now. As an artist its very easy to become distracted and less inspired to create as time goes on, which made me realize why my family members who possessed the talent eventually gave it up, life gets in the way. Knowing this, however, further led me to never give up my passion, I decided to surround my life with art, only applying to jobs that have some kind of artistic objectives. As time went on I found it even more difficult to remain inspired and motivated to create new work, when your a kid with no real responsibilities you have all the time in the world to be creative. Then one day, my girlfriend of 8 years told me she was pregnant, I was excited and frightened at the same time. frightened...
