Lives and works in New York, NY, USA

Artist statement

Christina Kruse’s practice unfolds across sculpture and wall-based constructions that investigate tension, containment, and measured restraint. Whether occupying physical space or extending laterally across the wall, each work functions as a calibrated system in which materials—stone, bronze, wood, hydrocal, springs, color, and line—are held in deliberate suspension. Forms appear complete yet remain open, suggesting structures paused between activation and stillness. Across media, Kruse resists narrative and expression in favor of clarity, allowing material weight, spatial intervals, and subtle deviations from symmetry to generate quiet psychological charge. Together, these works articulate a unified language in which compression and extension, mass and line, permanence and potential coexist in a state of poised equilibrium.
