Artist statement
My work explores grief as a response to change: the evidence that something mattered, something shifted, and we were changed by it. I am interested in thresholds – the spaces between what was and what comes next. Death is one of those thresholds, but it is not the only one. Relationships end and begin. Bodies change. Identities expand. Possibilities disappear. Beliefs collapse. Love alters us. Even joy can ask us to release a version of ourselves we no longer need. Through painting, drawing, mixed media, sculptural relief, light–responsive work, memorial objects, and story, I make work from these moments of transition. I am drawn to images that hold both tenderness and unease: animals at the edge of something unknown, bodies, transforming, objects carrying the memory, beauty growing alongside loss. My work does not try to resolve grief or explain it away. I want to give it form – to make the invisible weight of change tangible enough to sit beside. My practice is rooted in the belief that grief is not only about death. It is part of being alive in a world where nothing stays exactly as it was. I make work from the impermanence: noticing what changes us, metabolizing what remains, and offering something back.
