Artist statement
I started painting in August of last year. I don't plan them out much, I just let it happen on the canvas, and what comes out is bent out of shape-eagles, tigers, dragons, reapers, skulls, words written right into the paint that are part of the image, not labels on it. I take a lot from traditional tattoo designs, the bold figures and banners and luck charms, and I like chaos running around in the backgrounds. I build my own boards and gesso them myself, then paint with acrylic, oil, pastel, marker, whatever the painting wants. Some of them get really big, but they just feel like they need to be. They're myths and warnings. I want them to stay loose and alive, and I'm not interested in sanding the edges off. I'm just grateful I get to make them.
