Artist statement
My sculptures aim to explore the complexity of individuality through the use of layered paper sculptures. As a Registered Nurse of 9 years in the mental health field, discovering the nuances and intricacies of my patients’ individual life experiences has provided me with insight into just how elaborate such experiences tend to be. Be it family, friends, lovers, or even ourselves, these hand-cut cardstock sculptures serve as a visual analogue of our desire to uncover the depths of individuals beyond the veil of our idealizations of them as we descend through their layers like strata.
