Lives and works in Corciano, Province of Perugia, Italy

Artist statement

My work begins with the idea that an image can exist before it becomes visible, and that matter can retain the memory of its transformation. I work with industrial plastic film, transforming it manually through heat and open flame. I do not use a rigid mold or seek complete control over the final form. Heat folds, fuses, stretches and sometimes ruptures the material. I intervene in this process, but I also allow the plastic to resist and respond. The work emerges from this negotiation between intention and material behavior. MATRICE brings together my research into image, body, matter and memory. The human figure, particularly the female body, does not function as a representation to be reproduced. It appears progressively through layers, tensions, transparencies and traces left by transformation. At times the body remains recognizable; at others it approaches dissolution, becoming almost indistinguishable from the matter that generates it. I am interested precisely in this threshold: the moment when matter begins to become an image, and when an image seems capable of returning to matter. The surfaces of my sculptures are therefore not finishes. Their folds, cavities, fractures and stratifications are the physical memory of what occurred during their formation. Matter and figure do not exist separately in my work: they generate one another.
