Artist statement
I am a multidisciplinary artist, mainly working in sculpture. I’m interested in ideas around dreams, stories, intuition, ritual and memory and I seek to revitalise connections between the unconscious and the everyday, believing that the poignant and the absurd are two sides of the same coin. I work with traditional sculpture materials like clay, bronze and plaster alongside historical objects and everyday discarded bits and pieces, like old clothes and blankets, to construct my sculptures. I like there to be a tension between the familiar and the unnerving in my figurative sculptures and I’m happy for meanings to remain ambiguous. I like the idea of out-moded, discarded and marginal things returning as powerful presences.
