Lives and works in Madrid, Spain

Artist statement

Elian Stolarsky is a visual artist working with textile, printmaking and the image as a device of memory. She understands memory not as a stable archive, but as a fragile, constructed image—continually rewritten through gesture, fragmentation and repetition. Textile is central to this process. To cut, assemble and hand-sew becomes a way of inhabiting transmitted histories. Cloth functions simultaneously as skin and architecture: intimate and spatial, it becomes a surface on which what has been dispersed can gather again. Printmaking adds another dimension to this enquiry. In Spanish, grabar means both to record and to incise a surface. This double meaning—between trace and wound—resonates throughout the work. To leave a mark is at once to preserve and to damage, to remember and to alter. Through drawing, installation and stage design, Stolarsky creates environments in which memory can be inhabited rather than simply observed. She understands art as a form of digestion: a way of taking in inherited stories, breaking them down and transforming them into something that can be held.
