Artist statement
Elizabeth McConaughy-Oliver wants her artwork to symbolize the power of beauty in color, shape, and experiences. Her most recent works were inspired by Adam and Eve's story. Living in the Garden of Eden, the idea of being cast away from paradise into the real world, and the fear of the unknown. Her thoughts are maybe paradise wasn't what it seemed from the beginning? She wanted to explore the idea that there are hidden things going on in the garden. Each piece symbolizing the balance of good and bad in humanity. She moved to the Bay Area about 9 years ago from Salt Lake City, Utah to pursue art. She started off going to school at California College of the Arts, which began her exploration of what she wanted to do and say with her art. Candidly she really had no idea what she was doing. All around her there were incredible artists who seemed to know exactly who they were and what they were "about". This increasingly became debilitatingly inspiring, which in turn pushed her to work harder, because art and creativity are her everything. Along the way she met incredible people who shared opportunities with her to go outside her comfort zone and work on different forms of projects to express her art, helping develop her to this point. Currently she lives in Brooklyn, New York working as a Designer and is figuring out ways to challenge herself and her artwork to evolve to its next stage. She isn't sure what that will look like in the future but she looks forward to seeing what...
