Artist statement
I utilize a phenomenological approach to art that is difficult to simply define or place in a singular category or theme within Contemporary Art. Incorporating multiple elements across several philosophies and themes allows the flexibility in growing my practice, and a diverse opportunity for experiences with my art. My projects like the International Mnemonic Object Registration Administration could be visualized better as intersections of engagement rather than a singular type. Within the structure there are elements of many streams of ideas that feed into a common core, and not tied to a specific trend. These disciplines, trends, and concepts include: Conceptual Art, Site-specific Installation, Participatory Art, Performance Art, Interactive Art, Art in Social Practice, Post-Digital Art, Analogue Art, Word Art, Documentary Art, Archival Art, Memory Art, Speculative Realism, Post-Studio Practices, etcetera. To hold the me and my practices to a singular definition or trend causes the me to slip out of those definitions by offering alternate viewpoints, to show how it is and is not at the same time. This practice is not easily defined as multidisciplinary, or transmedia, so I identify as a Phenomenological Intermedia Artist.
