Artist statement

Erick Benitez is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores translation as a process of transformation across media, temporalities, and systems of knowledge. Working through installation, sculpture, painting, sound, performance, and moving image, he investigates how meaning shifts as it moves between myth and technology, ancestry and speculation, ritual and contemporary pop culture. Benitez treats hybridity as both method and material. Digital artifacts become devotional objects, surveillance technologies take on cosmological weight, and popular iconographies are reworked through ancestral frameworks. These acts of translation expose how unstable meaning is, and what gets made possible when it moves between forms. Grounded in nonlinear approaches to time, collaboration, and encounter, Benitez builds environments that invite viewers into active participation. His works don't offer fixed interpretations; they function as systems through which relationships emerge and shift. Translation, in this sense, is less about preservation than transformation, a continual process through which histories, technologies, and futures are reimagined in relation to each other.
