Lives and works in New York, NY, USA

Artist statement

I recently started a new series of work that focuses on perpetual yearning and insatiable desires. These paintings, which are partly confessional angsty fantasies, reflect both a youthful hope as well as the frayed reality of adulthood. The vibrant, saturated colors combined with the subtle ominousness of longing reflect the tension between dreams and reality. Increasingly, I've been using light to represent portals or distinct worlds within an image. The ambiguous quality in my work acts as a narrative puzzle, tasking the viewer with putting details together. For example, in Seekers, are they hunting for treasure or covering something up under the cover of night? In The Collector, is she planting flowers or is she uprooting them? The anticipatory feeling in the work serves to create a sense of unease—something is about to happen--or worse--not happen.
