Lives and works in Bender, Moldova

Artist statement

I am a contemporary painter working primarily in watercolour. My work explores architecture, memory, and the gradual transformation of physical space into atmosphere. I am drawn to passages, stairways, arches, windows, empty streets, and distant shores — places that suggest movement while remaining suspended in time. Architecture in my paintings is rarely represented as a fixed structure. It appears, dissolves, and sometimes almost disappears into light, water, and air. Working with watercolour allows me to let this process happen physically on the paper. Pigment moves through wet surfaces, edges become unstable, and forms emerge or disappear without being fully controlled. I often leave areas of untouched paper so that absence becomes as important as what is painted. My recent work considers how a place can retain the memory of what is no longer visible. Rather than reconstructing particular buildings or landscapes, I use fragments of architecture and traces of the natural world to create spaces that seem remembered rather than observed. I am interested in the threshold between presence and absence — the moment when architecture becomes atmosphere and a recognizable place begins to turn into memory.
