Artist statement
My name is G and I am an artist based between Amsterdam and London. My artist bio and artist statement intertwine. My bio changes when needed and necessary in an ever changing world (some things have never left) and is presented in a bullet point form. I have always worked with body intuition and responding to events I witness/been through within my life or what I overhear in the supermarket or when i need to move through something sticky. Humour creeps in, shouting takes a centre stage, moving cars, shy performances, durational, physically and sculpturally demanding works. I like to make works with my Mother and for the past 10 years have been working through a grief practice/death researcher score after being a carer for my dad’s end of life. It’s actually more about life than death, the things people discard, whether objects, personal experiences, even people or institutional systems/rule/status quos. I come from two worlds, I think its self explanatory - it’s all there in the work, I try my best not to lie. I am particularly interested in the day to day, queering household objects, for me this can mean adding an element of surprise/physical glitches i.e placing a 50 stone ceramic on a washing machine, fantasy for decompression, I.e a violinist playing a score of music for the on off button in the metal workshop and a piece of tissue on the floor. I like to dissect my practice to reveal that I have no answer a lot of the times, but alot of feels. If you don’t have...
