Artist statement
My Road work Paintings are inspired by two lane blacktop highways with their attendant businesses, amusements and perspectives on a dividing line between here and there. What is visible from the painted white line, conditions the vernacular, vehicular and vista amid the continuing stoppages. Spectacle atmospheres above crazy quilt property mapped landscapes locate one view after another in the form of a hand made film. I intend to install a self containing horizon line of paintings surrounding a gallery as a long drive around a continuous processional horizon. The road's avenue of escape, independence and direction is pictured with the patterned determination of an algorithm and the division of the landscape whether coming or going. I understand these paintings on that teetering edge. They drive, steer and pull over while standing still. Picturing that dynamic of road-side business, abandonment and attraction, motivates these works with deep space along a painted line.
