Artist statement

I explore memory and evaluate myself through narrative work which helps align my thought processes and leads to the development of each new piece. As each new piece is discovered it leads to more complex visual imagery that comes together as a whole to build my personal story. One singular event can be dissected and branch off into multiple images, like the process of memory. Drawing from these memories, I create my work as a form of healing and therapy. Each piece helps me process these events and how it has warped my perceptions of past memories. I draw upon the emotions of anger, betrayal, and pain to produce depictions of myself with the creatures I grew up with in Louisiana. Each animal serves an allegorical purpose within the images to depict my body as a nest, which becomes an environment of protection and a place of growth.
