Lives and works in Ramallah

Artist statement

I’m a Palestinian filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist based in Ramallah. My work moves between experimental documentary, video art, sound, music, and sometimes performance. Most of my projects start because there is something I can’t stop thinking about. Usually it is connected to memory, identity, home, relationships, or the way living under certain conditions changes how we see ourselves and the places around us. I studied psychology and sociology, and I think that still affects the way I work. I’m interested in people, but not only in what they say directly. I pay attention to small things: the way someone remembers a place, a sound in the background, an old family video, a room, an object, or something that has been repeated so many times that it starts to mean something else. I usually don’t begin a project knowing exactly where it will end. I work through conversations, observation, field recordings, archives, writing, and experimentation, and I try to leave enough space for the process to change the work. Film and sound are the main things I work with, but I don’t always want the result to stay as a traditional film. Sometimes the work moves toward installation, music, performance, or more fragmented audiovisual forms. Across my work, I keep returning to similar questions: what makes a place feel like home, how memory changes with time, how identity changes under pressure, and what remains when a person, a place, or even a version of yourself becomes distant.
