Hao Ni
Lives and works in Hsinchu City, Taiwan
Artist statement
Ni Hao enters systems that are already running, from the HVAC infrastructure of buildings, ATM mechanisms, and motor scooters to online markets for worn clothing, and re-hosts them so they keep acting. He moves laterally across fields of knowledge, often entering through a single body or a single transaction: a stranger who wore and sold a pair of socks, an air filter holding what a building tried to keep out. Working across sculpture, installation, video, sound, and kinetic systems, he follows how bodies, transactions, and environments persist through objects after their source has withdrawn. He calls this condition the poltergeist: not a supernatural spirit, but an absent cause becoming perceptible through material disturbance. Filtration can protect and constrain; a transaction can carry intimacy, labor, and asymmetry at once. Across the practice, care and violence emerge as different expressions of the same dependency.
