Hillary Russell
Lives and works in Lubbock, TX, USA
Artist statement
Hillary’s research deals with exploring and understanding the non-human. She investigates how an object/non-human has a life outside of our human interaction with it. Currently, she is especially interested in the depiction of the non-human in popular television and films. Hillary believes these depictions are insightful when dealing with how we understand our relationship to the non-human. This research interest evolved out of Hillary’s art practice; how her use of sound placed with objects make the objects alive. As a doctoral candidate in the PhD program in Fine Arts at Texas Tech University, Hillary is able to explore the non-human in her practice and research. Research Interest: philosophical objects, material culture, sound, listening, narratives, media studies
