Artist statement

These painting are part of a series that refers to a wider project, which also involves written work and video. They are conceptual landscapes of the creek and valley in Ulster County, New York, where I grew up. The narrative they outline is the events in 2011 and 2012 when two "100 year floods" happened in succeeding years, forcing me to understand that the climate crisis was happening in my front yard. That understanding radically changed my relationship with the creek and the surrounding landscape. Each painting recalls a singular event in that awakening process.
