Artist statement

In a highly mediatic and multi-purpose world, the trafficking of images is simply brutal. In my life as a painter, I will never be able to capture the number of images that I visualize and care for in my mind and soul. Therefore, the dilemma of -what do I paint? becomes my Holy Grail. Some artists resolve the matter by declaring themselves abstract, landscape, figurative or conceptual artists, convincing themselves, that their search end with labels and styles. In most cases, it works. But this conundrum is complicated when, within our skills and interests, we have the talent to imitate, recreate, invent, discover and the immense desire to be able to live the passion of those master artists who precede us. Thus, I paint based on "what I know" and the result of my paintings is an amalgam of colors, shapes, signs, memories and incongruent projections, which in the end, need the cunning, malice, mischief and love of the viewer in order to be deciphered. The satisfaction of discovering the truth within the picture makes them smile and long for more. On other occasions, the enigma of the images, stuns, enrages, frustrates, even if it ratifies that the spectator is alive and sentient. This is what happens when I paint only approximations, suggestions and insinuations. The ambiguous, the imagined and the uncertain define my work. I don't need much to work because the formulation results from my struggle against the loss of my true identity, where I have been and where I am going....
