Lives and works in Hamburg, Germany
Artist statement
Jakob Scheidt (*2002 in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany) lives and works in Hamburg, Germany. Since 2024, he has been studying at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK) in the class of Prof. Anselm Reyle. In his paintings, he develops an evocative abstract visual language informed by both contemporary visual culture and art history. Late medieval works, Mannerism, and approaches of Symbolism serve as important points of reference. Canonized compositional structures and motifs are examined in terms of their internal logic and distorted through a process-driven approach. This results in a biomorphic vocabulary of forms that remains complex and encoded through the use of spray paint, palette knives, latex masking, and applied fragments of canvas.
