Artist statement

I make pictures that feel glamorous yet broken. I take images apart, distort and reposition them to play with the visual language of display and desire. From my collection of found photos, I select images that speak to beliefs about what is natural and valuable. Photographs of familiar scenes that appear at first glance to be unambiguous, like iconic landscapes and staged feminine glamour figure prominently. I reprint the found imagery, manipulating scale and focus to arrive at altered images that confuse codes of figure and ground, portraiture and still life. Diverting messages about class, nature and desire, my work invites the creative reading of photographic language.
