Artist statement
Using the female voice as a catalyst for dialogue of suppressed desires and sexuality, my work focuses on the physical and conceptual exploration of stone: using primarily alabaster, onyx and marble, I create abstract sculptural forms and installations; expressing an inherent desire to reveal what is concealed; I carve, bind, and hang stone often combining with other materials such as rope, chain and metal. My subjects are researched in depth from this knowlegde I create collages and sketches to inform my body of work. Drawing from inner tensions of opposing forces and emotional exchanges, I explore an enduring focus within my practice: to make the invisible visible. Referencing a physical force in nature to convey the emotions of underlying pressures, sexuality, tensions and desires.
