Jérémy Gobé
Lives and works in Martel, France
Artist statement
Jérémy Gobé’s work is built around a central idea echoing Auguste Rodin: "Art that possesses life does not reproduce the past; it continues it." He engages with objects lacking a purpose and unshaped works, with workers lacking work and materials lacking workers. Through his exhibitions in France (Palais de Tokyo, CENTQUATRE-Paris, Fondation Bullukian, etc.) and internationally (Bass Museum Miami, Hangzhou China Museum, Shanghai Yuz Museum, etc.), his works compel a reconnection with the living world; by adapting, projecting, and transforming traditional craftsmanship, Gobé invites us to use our imagination to reflect on solutions for contemporary challenges. More recently, in 2017, he launched a concrete initiative: “Corail Artefact”, a project spanning art, science, industry, and education aimed at saving coral reefs.
