Lives and works in Netherlands
Artist statement
In general, my work can be described as a collection of happy ghosts and spirits that were born out of the sins of this world. A small variation on a Jewish/Yiddish phrase that deals with evil ghosts and spirits that were born out of the sins of this world. But if you want to see them as evil creatures or prehistoric science fiction animals or just weird creatures, you are welcome to do so. As a starting point for my work there is a series of something like thirty sketchbooks with more or less realistic black/white pencil sketches (and they are still growing).. Next to them I find inspiration in my own fantasy, sometimes feature films (and here I most of the times always end up with Fellini, Pasolini and Paradzjanov), the children’s books from Lorenzo Matotti and the child perspective in general, because it Is a very interesting and good alternative way of looking at an adult world that is far too serious. The reason why I tell you so little about my work is because I think it is a bit more interesting to find out what a work does with a viewer. Perhaps nothing at all, or something else instead then you think it may do. Yes, this is indeed a variation on writing long stories that are hard to understand or totally non-understandable at all. Let the viewer decide what he or she is looking at, or he or she is viewing can also be a good way that the meaning of an artwork can constantly change. Not once, but repeatedly. And believe it or not, the question what the difference...
