Lives and works in Santa Ana, CA
Artist statement
My work examines how identity, memory, place, and lived experience become embedded in images. Working across painting, photography, mixed media, film, drawing, and wearable forms, I build layered compositions that move between documentation and invention. I often begin with people, neighborhoods, photographs, gestures, and objects drawn from everyday environments. These fragments are altered through color, drawing, text, distortion, repetition, and symbolic imagery until the original document becomes something closer to memory: recognizable, but unstable. My practice is shaped by contrasts—strength and vulnerability, humor and tension, visibility and concealment, stillness and movement. Halos, crowns, patterned forms, handwritten marks, street-derived graphics, and other recurring symbols function as visual cues that complicate how a person or place is initially read. Southern California and the communities that shaped me remain a recurring point of departure. I am interested in preserving experiences that are often ordinary, overlooked, or reduced to outside narratives while allowing those experiences to become imagined as well as documented. I do not treat medium as a fixed boundary. A photograph may become a painting, a drawing may move onto clothing, or a body of images may develop into film. Across these forms, the work operates as an evolving visual archive—one concerned with what communities carry, what disappears, and what remains.
